AMBASSADORS CLUB OF EBEN BOOKLET 2019 27 VODAFONE Taking action on climate change Operating with the aim to fully satisfy its customers, Vodafone is committing financial and human resources to its effort to achieve the Group’s strategic goals for transitioning from a linear to a circular economy by 2025. The transition to an energy market that uses 100% renewable energy sources worldwide and a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 2017 to 2025 are the key components of the Vodafone Group’s climate change action. In this direction, Vodafone Greece has committed to a number of measurable actions that also contribute to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 9: “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure,” and Goal 13: “Climate Action.” Adopting the innovative production and consumption model of the circular economy, the company is reducing its environmental impact throughout its operations: from planning and products and services development and promotion to its market, to the actual use and disposal by its customers. At the same time, through systematic and measurable actions, it is focusing its activities in energy efficiency, waste management which is based on the reduce-reuse-recycle principle, as well as the use and promotion of eco-friendly products and services that contribute to the development of a low energy-consumption competitive economy. Taken together, in 2017-2018 the programmes that the company is implementing achieved a ~39% energy savings on the energy consumed by the landline and mobile networks, as well as averted the emission of over 39,000 tonnes of CO2e into the atmosphere. The company is also developing its Vodafone IoT Full Control technologies for its customers, making businesses more competitive and creating the conditions for strengthening innovation, growth and competitiveness in the Greek economy, with parallel benefits for the environment. We should also mention that the company operates responsibly in all areas, promoting the principles of Sustainable Development in its supply chain, thus multiplying the benefits of its actions. To ensure proper management of its programmes, Vodafone Greece applies Environmental & Energy Management Systems certified under the ISO 14001 & ISO 50001 standards in all of its operations and facilities.
