The company operates in a socially responsible manner, ensuring the safety of people and the environment, through transparent and ethical behavior. The environmental protection represents a major challenge for the shipping companies and we are no exception. Our Main Objectives are: • Zero tolerance to water pollution from Oil, • Zero tolerance to water pollution from Garbage, • Zero tolerance to water pollution from micro-organisms that may disrupt the native ecology of visited ports, from negligent and improper management of ballast water • Compliance with MARPOL VI for Air Emissions Management • Achievement of environmental objectives and targets through our Environmental Programs ATHENIAN SEA CARRIERS as to meet its commitment, developed, implements and maintains an Environmental and Energy Management System that satisfies stakeholders’ requirements, through continual improvement. All risks are identified and taken into account in order to maintain this Management system. In pursuing our Environmental Policy and awareness, ATHENIAN SEA CARRIERS proceeded with the application and the achievement of certification to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard, on September 2002. Also with the aim of continually increasing energy efficiency and minimizing energy waste of the ship operations our company certified with the ISO 50001 on March 2019. ACTIONS TO MEET OUR COMMITMENT On board our ships we have installed the latest technology equipment in order to minimize the environmental footprint of our fleet. Our operational procedures are prepared and implemented with minimum possible environmental impact in mind. Contingency Plans have been established, so that shore- based and shipboard organization can respond effectively at any time to hazards, accidents and emergencies. Our personnel ashore and aboard ships are continuously trained to improve pollution prevention management skills, including preparedness for emergencies. Purchase and supply activities are effected in such a way as to be environmentally protective. Our Logistics department is promoting the purchasing of non-hazardous and asbestos free products, the use of recyclable packages and also the minimization of packaging. Environmental Committees have been established in the head office and on each vessel with the purpose of: - identifying and evaluating company Environmental aspects and impacts; - monitoring implementation of environmental management programs; - processing and responding, as required by Stakeholders regarding company's environmental performance. Our vessels are regularly inspected by our experienced Company Superintendents in order to monitor and ensure that the Company’s high Environmental standards are being maintained within the fleet. Proactive campaigns on environmental preservation and protection matters are regularly issued. Our performance indicators have been designed to reflect how our environmental targets are implemented and clearly indicate that our goals are maintained while always aiming for minimum positive environmental impact. Recycling is the major theme in our every day working environment. Waste from plastics, batteries, paper, computer hardware, lamps, are properly collected and segregated on board our vessels and ashore in our offices. Furthermore, specialized companies in the recycling business are our partners which gather and process all collection waste materials. Finally, we are members of HELMEPA and CYMEPA and we have been participating in the campaign ‘’Let Us Clean Europe’’ on a yearly basis. All office personnel participate in cleaning specific beaches in Attica.
