3 ENCYCLOPEDIA OF EUROPEAN WOMEN'S CLUB COMPETITIONS 1958 2024 Dear Basketball Friends, FIBA is very proud to present this official Encyclopedia of Women’s European Club Competitions. Offering an incredibly rich depth of data and information, it provides recognition of the tremendous contributions down the years of 13,994 players, 1,376 coaches and 664 clubs, who have all shaped the prestigious history of these competitions. It also pays tribute to the 56 National Federations of Europe (and of Africa, in the early years) that have been represented for many decades by their respective national champions, cup winners and best-ranked clubs. The most striking theme of this Encyclopedia is the impressive number of legends who built their careers playing in these famous competitions, attracting fans and global attention to the women’s game with their skill and dedication. In many cases, it has been European-born stars who have often taken their first footsteps to stardom by posting breakout performances in these championships. The publication of this Encyclopedia, produced by the FIBA Foundation, also comes at a time when the women’s game is experiencing unprecedented global growth. EuroLeague Women in particular has been central to this relentless rise in popularity – driven also by FIBA’s strategic priority ‘Women in Basketball’ and the important recent decisions by the FIBA Europe Board to continuously upgrade the competition, such as the introduction of the Final-Six format. Our sincere thanks go to the author and the FIBA Foundation for their tireless and hugely appreciated efforts in compiling such a stunning body of work from so many different sources. The FIBA Foundation is committed in its mission to preserve basketball’s cultural heritage and has provided the resources for often painstaking validation of results and names. This has often involved exploring deep into the historical archives, to an era when boxscores were unknown. The work of preserving and promoting the legacy of our sport will not stand still, with annual digital updates to the Encyclopedia ready to be applied. We hope you will enjoy the Encyclopedia and find it an enjoyable and precious source of information. Andreas Zagklis FIBA Secretary General
