James Naismith, the inventor of basketball and its first teacher said: “Be strong in body, clean in mind, lofty in ideals.” Thus, you need good teachers to prepare players and to be successful. On the following pages we have listed more than 1,376 coaches from 56 countries, to produce a ‘who’s who’ of European coaching. These great coaches not only led their respective teams to European stardom, but they also all excelled in their national leagues, as that was the entry ticket to European Club Competitions. The Coaches are listed by Last Name, First Name, Nickname - (if applicable), Nationality, Wins, Losses and Ties, as well as clubs coached including the respective season. For the Country Codes and Competition Codes used, please refer to the legend on page 530. In case of identical names, the year of birth is mentioned in brackets and additionally the nationality will clarify the identity. We use the nationality that the coach had when they coached in the European Club Competitions and not some that they may have acquired later in their career, or some that they had earlier. FIBA Hall of Famer Natalia Hejkova stands out in coaching records, leading in 'Total Games' and 'Most Wins'.
